Spring Tour 2010

Overview

The Music Learning Foundation is taking a concert tour this spring to NASA Space Center Houston, Moody Gardens in Galveston, and Six Flags.  The tour will be at the beginning of most school spring breaks from March 13 – 15, 2010 and will feature the Beginner Band, Concert Band, Studio Honor Band, and the Jazz Honor Band.  We will depart the DFW Metroplex on March 13th and will return March 15th. All students and chaperones will travel by chartered buses.

This will be Music Learning’s twenty-fifth Spring Tour.  This event is fun for all students and their parents.  Many families make the spring tour a family event bringing along sibling and grandparents.  Traveling “on the road” with a band offers students the opportunity to build lasting memories with their friends as well as experience the thrills and work involved in performing for large audiences.

In addition to the social and musical benefits of the tour, we also sneak in some natural science lessons along the way.  Our first stop on the tour is at Space Center Houston, home of NASA’s Mission Control. Students will have time to tour the facilities, learn about math, space travel, environmental issues, and much more.  On our second day, we will spend time at Moody Gardens where participants will have the chance to learn more about aquatic life, the rainforest, and the world where these animals live.  In the Moody Gardens Aquarium pyramid students can see thousands of fish and marine wildlife and pet aquatic animals like starfish and even sharks in their supervised petting zoo!  We’ll also have time to see an IMAX movie that also relates to our environment.

While there are many reasons that people attend the Spring Tour, the main reason that students and their parents attend the Spring Tour is simple – ITS FUN!  In addition to concerts, petting aquatic wildlife, and landing a space shuttle returning from the moon, participants will have time to make new friends and show off their musical skills to large audiences in the Galveston area.  After a busy concert tour, it is always fun to relax.  We do that by spending the last day of the tour at Six Flags Over Texas.  We will also enjoy a meal with one of the Loony Tunes characters in a private area of the park.
